Crape jasmine is an evergreen shrub which looks much like a gardenia which is commonly called cape jasmine. Tabernaemontana divaricata can be grown as a jasmine bush or small jasmine tree.
Crepe jasmine is a handsome 6-15 foot tall tropical shrub. Its upright stems are lined with 4-5 inch long glossy, textured leaves. Green stems will bleed a white latex when cut so use gloves when pruning it.
Common names for this plant include Nero's Crown, butterfly gardenia and Adam's apple.
In late spring, clusters of flower buds will begin to appear in the leaf axils. These will open into white single or double flowers 1.5 inches in diameter.
The scent of the blooms varies from lightly fragrant to scentless. The ones in my yard are only noticeably fragrant during damp weather.

Growing Crape Jasmine
Site this fast growing jasmine bush in full sun to part shade and it will give you lots of blooms. It is very easy to care for, drought tolerant in shade and not bothered by bugs or diseases.
It is reliably hardy in USDA zones 9-11.
In the warmest end of its range, it will grow to 15 feet and can be pruned into a pretty jasmine tree. We don't make trees of it here in zone 9 because it will die to the ground each winter and return from the roots each spring.
The picture just above is of an E. coronaria plena in my west facing side yard. It is the first week of June. My bush is 3 feet tall and flower buds are just beginning to open. By fall it will be 6 or 7 feet tall.
A baby plant has sprung up near the mother bush. I don't know if this is a sucker from the root or if a seed somehow germinated. I'm going to dig the little replica up and put it in a 12 inch pot.

Remove any dead wood or prune to control size in February or March.
The waxy white flowers of butterfly gardenia will make repeat appearances all summer.
To grow it indoors, give it bright light. A greenhouse is best as too little light will hinder bloom.
It will need a 12-15 inch pot. Keep the soil barely moist and fertilize it monthly year round.
