The fresh fruit and vegetable diet plan can be followed in several ways. You can do a raw vegetable fruit diet, a vegetable and fruit juice diet, or a fruit vegetable protein detox diet.

If you want to lose weight, improve your digestive and general health and cleanse your body of harmful chemicals all at the same time, an organic fruit and vegetable detox diet may be just what you need.

There are as many ways to achieve the goals I've laid out here as there are people trying to achieve them. For that reason, I'm going to outline a few different vegetable and fruit diet plans here.

Feel free to modify the diets to suit your personal needs.

First, let's go over the detox diet fruit vegetable ground rules:

  • If you are taking prescription meds, ask your doctor if there are any fruits and vegetables that you should avoid. Also, do not stop taking your medications without first consulting your doctor.
  • If, at any time during this detox, you begin to feel unwell discontinue the diet immediately. It is normal to feel a little bit hungry while dieting, but if you become light headed or dizzy or get a headache, your blood sugar levels may have fallen too low. Eat a banana or some dried fruit. If your symptoms do not subside within a few hours, seek medical attention.

    High Fiber Fruits and Vegetables

  • Grapefruit (a whopping 18 grams per whole fruit)
  • Cooked artichoke (10 g each)
  • Bananas (3 g)
  • Sweet potatoes (4 grams in a small one)
  • Raspberries (4 g per half cup)
  • Pears (5.5 g per fruit)
  • Unpeeled apples (4.4 g each)
  • Cooked peas
  • (4.4 g per half cup)
  • Cooked greens (collards, kale, turnip, mustard, etc. contain 4 grams per half cup)
  • The National Cancer Institute and American Diabetes Association recommend a daily dietary fiber intake of 20 – 35 grams.

    Use this information to help you manage your fiber intake while on a fruit vegetable diet.


    Organic Fruits and Vegetables

    I highly recommend the consumption of fruit and vegetables which have not been sprayed with chemical pesticides while detoxing. But I realize that unless you are growing fruits and vegetables yourself, your selection of organic produce may be limited.

    A fruit and vegetable cleansing diet using conventionally grown produce will work. It just won't do quite as good a job of detoxifying your system.

    Organic fruits and vegetables are also higher in nutrients than their conventionally grown peers.

    Frozen Fruits and Vegetables

    Feel free to use frozen vegetables and fruits if you like. But remember, about 20% of a food's nutrients are lost when it is frozen.

    Storing Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

    The best solution is to shop every other day. But who has time for that?

    I use produce bags and find that they give my seasonal fruits and vegetables a few extra days of life.

    Celery keeps best if wrapped in foil and stored in the crisper.

    Washing Fruits and Vegetables

    For produce that has a peel:

    Into a large bowl of cool water place 2 drops of dishwashing liquid.

    Swish it around until suds form.

    Now, swish the produce around in it. Rinse, dry and store.

    For leafy greens:

    Simply rinse salad greens in clean water. Drain before serving.

    Set cooking greens into a sink full of water to which you've added a handful of baking soda. Check each leaf for snails or tiny worms. Rinse the leaves with fresh water before you prepare them.

    You can also wash fruits and vegetables with a weak vinegar and water solution or a proprietary fruit and vegetable wash.

    The Fruit and Vegetable Diet Plans

    You can stay on a fruit and vegetable cleansing diet for 3 to 30 days at a time. How long you should do it depends on your health and your weight loss goals.

    Of course, the more restricted fruit and vegetable diet plans should be followed for a shorter length of time in order to avoid the development of nutrient deficiencies.

    You do not have to do an all fruit and vegetable diet. Feel free to add a small amount of white rice or lean protein. These are low in calories and will keep your bowels from becoming too loose.

    If you do decide to do an all fruit and vegetable diet, keep track of your fiber intake and focus on low fiber fruit and vegetable choices.


    Raw Fruit and Vegetable Diet

    Do not include any cooked produce but you may include dried fruit as that is raw.

    This may be the most beneficial fruit and vegetable detox diet. I have heard of people using a raw foods diet to overcome fairly serious health problems.

    Fresh fruit and vegetable juicing fits nicely into the raw fruit and vegetable diet.

    Fruit Vegetable Protein Detox Diet

    This is sometimes referred to as the fruit flush diet.

    Day 1: Drink only protein shakes.

    Days 2&3: Eat fresh fruit every two hours throughout the day then have a dinner of raw vegetables and a small piece of lean meat or fish or a protein shake.

    The fruit flush diet provides about 900-1,000 calories each day. You can lose as much as 9 lbs. during this 3 day diet.


    Fruit and Vegetable Juice Diet

    This is the most fun fruit and vegetable cleansing diet.

    Take a break from cooking while you feast upon delicious fruit and vegetable smoothies and juices!

    All you need to make fruit and vegetable smoothies is a blender but for this fruit and vegetable fast you will want fresh fruit and vegetable juices.

    Bottled fruit and vegetable drinks from the market will not offer the same delectable taste or nutrition of fresh vegetable and fruit juice.

    You need a fruit and vegetable juicer or a fruit and vegetable juice extractor to produce the highest quality juices.
