Growing a Pear or Apple Tree

by Indrek Pringi
(Montreal Quebec Canada)

If you dig a hole and put an apple or a pear into the hole and cover it up and water it... will a tree sprout?

Plant Guides Answer:

Sometimes.

The buried fruit would rot and, in most cases, the seeds inside it would rot as well. In a small percentage of cases, the seeds would survive and sprout.

If you really want to grow an apple tree it is best to remove the seeds from the fruit before planting them.
