How Big Does Papaya Tree Grow?

I have some papaya seeds I want to plant, but before I do I want to know how big does papaya tree grow?

Another thing I want to know is can you eat papaya seeds?

How big a papaya tree grows depends on the variety. The large fruited types are usually large plants growing to a height of 10-12 feet. Papayas that produce small fruits are usually the Hawaiian types. These only grow to 5-7 feet.

The fruit of the smaller varieties ripens more quickly than the large fruit and is therefor better to plant where frost may cut the ripening time short.

If you are going to be growing your papaya in a pot, the Hawaiian types would be the best ones to plant. They will sometimes begin to produce fruit when they are only 3 feet tall!

In answer to your second question, yes you can eat papaya seeds. They are perfectly safe to eat. They have a peppery flavor.
