Phaelenopisis Leaves Turning Mushy

by Jack
(South Australia)

Hi, I have noticed 2 leaves on a couple my plants turning mushy and slimy. They seem to be new leaves about 6cm long and on the top of the plant. My Phallys are grown in a small hot house. I have a lot of new leaves forming on all the plants.

Botanical Journeys Plant Guides

Hi Jack,

It sounds like your Phalaenopsis orchids have some bacterial rot in their leaves. This could have been caused by water sitting in the leaves for too long after watering or rain.

Keep the leaves as dry as possible. If the rot has not moved into the crowns of the plants, they should recover.

Good luck.
