Quite different from other members of the genus Pelargonium, scented leaf geraniums plants are mainly grown for the perfume they emit whenever their foliage is disturbed.The flowers are usually not the main attraction with these mostly indoor geraniums. Pelargonium graveolens
The rose scented geranium features large leaves consisting of 3 deeply toothed lobes. They are bright green, lacy in texture and white at the edges. The fragrance of geranium Pelargonium graveolens is mild. There are other rose geraniums with a stronger rose scent.
Pelargonium crispum
The lemon scented Pelargoniums are upright growing shrubs. 'Golden Lemon Crispum' features yellow-edged leaves. 'Minor' has small leaves which are sometimes floated in finger bowls to scent the water. It bears white blooms with a purple throat. The tiny leaves of 'Prince Rupert Variegated' are edged in white. Its flowers open white and fade to pink. These three variegated leaf geraniums bloom reliably.

Pelargonium tomentosum

They can also be grown in pots. The peppermint-scented leaves can be used to line a cake pan before baking a chocolate cake.
How to Collect Seeds Pelargonium Geranium
Pelargonium seeds will fly away in the wind if you wait too long to remove them from the plants.Cut the seedheads from the plants as they begin to dry and complete the drying process indoors. Scented geranium seed that is left on the plants will often sprout on its own and provide you with volunteers.
How to Care for Indoor Geraniums
These tender perennial geraniums are well suited to pot culture. They enjoy having their roots a little crowded.When growing geraniums indoors, give them warmth, direct sunlight and fast draining soil. Like most herbs, they prefer to be kept on the dry side and slightly underfed. Too much fertilizer will reduce their fragrance.

The plant is used in the making of perfumes. The dried leaves can be used in sachets and potpourri. Graveolens Pelargonium (rose scented) is used in aromatherapy for facial steams due to its anti-aging effect on the skin. The essential oil is also reputed to be mildly sedative and to lift low spirits. The fresh leaves of geraniums (scented) can be chopped and added to fruit salads or tea cakes. They can be simmered in sweet syrup or milk to extract their flavors. The fresh or dried leaves can be used to make flavorful herbal teas.
