Fried Chips Recipe

Sweet potato chips draining on a paper towels.

When my husband was on a salt-free diet designed to lower his blood pressure, this was one of the few safe treats he could eat. Sweet potatoes are full of potassium and are very nutrient dense.

Sweet Potato Nutrition Facts will give you all the info you need on the health benefits associated with eating these tasty tubers.

To use sweet potato chips to naturally lower high blood pressure, serve them sans salt. Tiny ate them unseasoned, but black pepper or cinnamon sugar will not elevate blood pressure so you can season the chips with any of these.

Ingredients:

  • 2 sweet potatoes scrubbed and dried
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • salt, black pepper, cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Heat 1/2 an inch of oil in a dutch oven until a drop of water dances on it.
  2. Slice the sweet potatoes as thin as you can. Aim for about 1/8 of an inch.
  3. Fry the potatoes a few at a time on medium heat so that they are not crowded. Poke them with a wooden spoon to keep them from sticking together.
  4. Use a slotted spoon or spatula to fish the slices out as they begin to brown. The chips will curl when they are almost done. Lay them on doubled paper towels to drain.
  5. Sprinkle them with salt and pepper or one of the sugars while they are still warm.
